Mattel is selling an exclusive Hammond figure from the Jurassic World Legacy Collection at San Diego Comic-Con, which takes place starting July 17th. The figure is reasonably priced at $15 but as the title implies, you have to physically be at SDCC to claim this toy. While this isn’t the first time Mattel has done an exclusive toy offering, this is still rather frustrating. Rather than being limited to a store like Target for instance where supplies can be restocked, this figure is expected to be highly limited. If you are heading to SDCC you can reserve online and simply check in at the Mattel booth.
While Mattel likely won’t have a hard time selling out of the stock that they do produce, they’re certainly limiting the potential sales of this figure. The highly exclusive nature of this figure means that the scalpers looking to sale these toys on Ebay and the like could very well make more than Mattel themselves. With Mattel possibly facing financial issues, it would stand to reason they would want to maximize sales of new toys. To backup my concerns I decided to do a quick search on Ebay and my fears were confirmed. The cheapest auction I could find was $45.99 and the cheapest Buy It Now was $120, with most priced closer to the $150 mark.
